Therapy for Teens

Let's face it -- being a teenager is hard. It's a time of psychological, emotional, and physical development for teens, and a critical transition for parents and guardians too.

I meet teens where they are, creating a safe and non-judgmental space to explore their challenges, emotions, and goals. By building trust and genuine connection, I help teenagers develop confidence, resilience, and healthy coping skills as they navigate the ups and downs of adolescence. I have a special interest in working with teenagers that are adopted and/or those whose parents are divorced.

As a systems focused therapist I prefer to involve family members in treatment of teenagers as appropriate. Sometimes this is just a brief check in at the beginning or end of sessions with parents or guardians and other times it is having family members more directly involved in therapy.

It’s also important to me that the teens I work with walk away with a positive feeling about the process of therapy so that as they mature into adulthood, they know they can always seek the help they need.

Areas of experience and focus in my work with teenagers include anxiety, depression, ADHD, identity development, adoption, and divorce.

It's crucial for teens and their parents to understand minors' rights in psychotherapy, so they can build trust, make informed decisions, and ensure the teen feels safe and empowered in seeking support. Critical information about these rights can be found here.
